Terms of sale
Last updated: 7 November 2026
These terms apply when you order from Quillay Studio. They're written to be readable, and they don't reduce your legal rights.
1. Who we are
Quillay Studio is the trading name of [your full legal name], a sole trader based in England.
Address: [a real postal address where you can receive post]
Email: hello@[your-domain]
2. How an order works
- You send a request. You upload a file or describe your idea. This doesn't commit you to anything.
- We send a quote by email. It describes what we'll make or design, the material, the total price including delivery, how you pay, the estimated timing and what's included, such as rounds of design changes. An instant estimate on our website is only a guide, and the quote may differ from it after we've checked your file.
- You check it and accept. Before you pay, check the details. If anything is wrong, reply and we'll send a corrected quote. Accept by paying through the secure link in the quote.
- We confirm. Our contract with you begins when we've confirmed your payment. We then email you an order confirmation, which includes these terms. Keep it for your records.
- We make and send it. Nothing is designed or printed until then.
Our contract is in English. We keep a copy of your quote and order, and you can ask us for it at any time. We may decline any request before a contract begins. You must be at least 18 to place an order.
3. Prices and payment
Prices are in pounds sterling and include any UK VAT that applies. Your quote shows the total you'll pay, including any minimum order charge, design work and delivery. Payment is taken in full, in advance, through Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
If we make an obvious mistake in a quote, such as a price that's clearly wrong, we'll tell you and send a corrected quote before you pay. If you've already paid, you can choose to go ahead at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
4. Where we deliver
We currently deliver to addresses in England, Scotland and Wales only. See our Delivery page.
5. What 3D printed parts are like
Everything is made to order using filament printing, which has some natural characteristics. Unless your quote says otherwise, these are normal and aren't faults:
- visible layer lines and small marks where supports were removed
- small variations in colour and finish between batches of material, and from how colours look on screen
- small dimensional variation, which is why any measurement or tolerance you need must be confirmed on your quote
If a part must fit something or meet a measurement, tell us when you make your request. We only commit to a specific tolerance, strength or use where it's stated on your quote.
Unless we've agreed otherwise in writing, our parts aren't intended for safety-critical, medical, structural or food-contact use, or for use on vehicles where failure could cause harm.
6. Files and ideas you send us
- You keep the rights you already have in your files, photos and ideas.
- You confirm you own them or have permission to reproduce them.
- We won't make weapons, firearms, firearm parts or anything designed to look like them, templates or files for any of these, or anything else unlawful or that we reasonably think could be used to cause harm.
- We only use your files to quote and fulfil your request. We won't share them publicly, or show your part in our marketing, without your permission.
- We may refuse or stop a job if we reasonably believe it breaks someone's rights or the law, and we'll refund anything you've paid for work we haven't done.
- If you're buying for a business: you'll cover any losses, costs or claims we face because a file, design or instruction you gave us infringes someone else's rights.
7. Designs we create for you
How design work runs. Your quote says what we'll design and how many rounds of changes are included. We'll send you the design to check, usually as images or a 3D preview, and we only print it once you've approved it. Further changes after that are quoted before we do them. Where you give us measurements or a sample part, we design to what you give us, so please check measurements carefully. If a part doesn't fit because a measurement you supplied was wrong, any rework will be quoted.
Who owns what. Unless your quote says otherwise:
- Your idea stays yours. Any sketches, drawings, photos, measurements or ideas you give us remain yours. We own only the modelling work we do from them.
- You can have the 3D file. If you ask, we'll send the model file as an STL or 3MF, and as a STEP file if you want to edit it in CAD software. Our own working files from our design software aren't included.
- What you can do with it (standard licence). Once you've paid, you can print, change and use the design and the parts made from it for any purpose, including in your own business and in products you sell. You can have it printed or made by anyone you choose. This permission is permanent and doesn't need renewing.
- What you can't do with the file itself. You can't sell, give away or publish the 3D file, or a modified version of it, as a file for others to download or print, for example on a model marketplace, without our written permission.
- We keep the copyright in the design under the standard licence. We won't share, sell or reuse your specific design for anyone else, and we'll only show it in our photos or marketing if you say yes.
- Full ownership, if you need it. If you'd like to own the design outright, for example to patent it, have it mass-manufactured or sell it on, we can transfer the copyright and design rights to you for an extra fee shown on your quote. The transfer takes effect once you've paid, in a signed letter we send you. After a transfer we won't use the design ourselves, except to keep a copy for our records.
We can still use general skills and techniques we develop, as long as we don't reproduce your design. If you aren't sure which option suits you, ask when you request a quote.
8. Changing or cancelling
Tell us as soon as possible if you want to change or cancel an order. Our Returns page explains your cancellation rights, including for design work and design files, and has a cancellation form you can use.
9. If something goes wrong
Your legal rights are set out on our Returns page. We're responsible for loss or damage that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
If you're buying for a business: we aren't liable for loss of profit, loss of business or indirect loss, and our total liability for an order is limited to the price paid for it. The legal rights described for consumers don't all apply to business customers.
10. Events outside our control
We aren't responsible for delays caused by events we can't reasonably control, such as carrier disruption or a machine breakdown we couldn't have prevented. We'll tell you as soon as we can, and if the delay is significant you can cancel and get a refund for anything not delivered.
11. Complaints
Please email hello@[your-domain] and we'll aim to reply within two working days. We don't currently use an alternative dispute resolution scheme. If we can't resolve things, Citizens Advice or, in Scotland, Advice Direct Scotland can give you free guidance.
12. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you're a consumer living in Scotland, you can also bring a claim in the Scottish courts, and you keep any protection given by Scots law.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one in force when you accepted your quote.
